For the last five years, the Mount Michael missionaries have been fortunate to work with Jorge Caballero. Through his company Mejorando Un Hogar ("Improving a Home"), Jorge designed the homes that we build and provides real construction expertise to the group. He just tweeted out a few pictures of our students at work:

Fr. Joshua sent this update about how things went on Sunday, and check out the slideshow below. It sounds like the mission is off to a great start. Thank you all for your continued prayers! Dear families and friends, Today we got off to a great start and everyone hit the ground running. The weather was gorgeous. We were able to finish the structure for both houses and began cementing one of the homes. For the boys and dads some of the highlights they shared were the great food that the families prepared, working together, meeting the local families, and learning new skills. Moms would be proud to see how these boys even volunteer to do the dishes. Blessings, Fr Joshua The mission is being led by Fr. Joshua West, LC. He sent a brief update this morning, along with the a picture taken in the Mexico City airport:
Dear Families and friends, We arrived safely into Mexico City! We grabbed a bite to eat and made the 3 hour bus ride up to La Cima where we will be working. Upon arriving most everybody was willing to get right to bed after a little dinner. The missionaries have landed safely in Mexico. Thank you for your continued prayers for safe travel and a great mission for our group!
Marial from Mission Youth sent two pictures yesterday. You can see each family for whom the missionaries will be building houses, along with the work sites (one home is already partially built, but the other is just a concrete slab for now).
After an early (2 AM!) departure from Mount Michael, the group made it to the Kansas City airport. Everyone made it through security and onto the plane, and they are currently on the way to Houston. They will get to Mexico City early this afternoon and then should be in the village of La Cima by dinner time. Below are a few pictures from the morning. The 2017 mission is just two days away. We have 26 students, 10 dads, and 4 MM staff members ready to go. They will build one house from scratch and finish walling and roofing a second. Check back here for pictures and other updates during the week!
It is time to begin our preparations for the 2017 mission! There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 28 at 7 PM in the Mount Michael chapel. All juniors and seniors interested in the trip should attend, along with their parents.
For those new to the mission, feel free to scroll below to see the updates posted during last year's trip. The last update from Marial came late on Friday. It sounds like the last day went very smoothly, and the group is traveling home today.
Dear Family and Friends, Greetings from Mexico City! The kids enjoyed the pool and the dads are enjoying a cigar in the terrace of the hotel -- needless to say everyone was overjoyed at the possibility of having a shower! We left Ahuazotepec at 7:00 am, stopped for a couple hours at the pyramids of Teotihuacan, had lunch there (tuna and PBJ sandwiches) and from there drove to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe where we had Mass and an hour to visit. Afterwards we went to a mall in Reforma street to have dinner and from there to the hotel. Everyone seems so happy and grateful for the experience! Many commented that they realized that happiness and joy are not dependent upon material things; another "common realization" is that adversity is actually positive since it allows us to grow. The friendship and brotherhood among the students and dads is evident, it's been a joy and a blessing to accompany this group. Wifi is really slow in the hotel and the pictures in my phone haven't made it to my computer so I cannot include them here, but be sure that I'll send some to you next week. God bless! Marial Corona Mission Team Puebla 2016 Miles deMayo just shared this picture of one of the houses the group built. They are calling that color "Shrek Green."
Thursday night update from Marial:
Dear Family and Friends, Success! We’ve had two days with a lot of wind and some rain, and yesterday we had no electricity in town which is why I did not write you. But, despite the challenges we were able to finish both houses! Many missionaries commented on the satisfaction at seeing the families take possession of their new home. We also celebrated a wedding yesterday and three baptisms today, and we were able to have mass in the Church of Las Puentes which Mt. Michael helped build last year. I’ll finish here since in a few hours we are leaving. Tomorrow we’ll visit the pyramids in Teotihuacán and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Thanks for your prayers! Count on ours, especially before Our Lady! God bless, Mission Team Puebla 2016 I received a very brief note from Matt Krajewski this evening. He says:
Both houses built. Had mass at church we made last year. Everyone is safe, tired and smelly! Looking forward to some time off and a shower! So the missionaries have completed their work...two houses built in five days. They will leave La Cima tomorrow to visit the Toltec pyramids at Teotihuacan, and then they will get to have mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. This is always a wonderful experience for the boys. Then after dinner at a mall, they will stay the night at a hotel near the airport. Saturday will be one more long day of travel. Keep watching here for updates, including many pictures once the group has returned! These are mostly the same pictures that are in the PDF in the post below this one. You can cycle through them with the left and right arrows or by clicking the thumbnails below the picture. It looks like Tuesday was more productive for the group...lots of hard work, but many tasks accomplished. Marial produced the PDF below with a number of pictures from the first four days; feel free to download and look them over. I will try to post a few separate pictures in another post.
